A standard migration relocates workloads to cloud infrastructure largely as they are. VMware modernization is a per-workload strategy: rehosting your VMware estate onto cloud (for example, IBM Cloud) where speed and stability matter, replatforming or refactoring where the payoff justifies it, and addressing licensing pressure and architectural debt rather than just changing where the same problems run.

Duration depends on the size of the estate, workload complexity, and dependencies between systems, so we don't quote a number before assessment. The assessment produces a wave-based migration plan with a concrete timeline before you commit to execution, and migrating in waves keeps risk contained and lets early waves inform later ones.

The common triggers are licensing changes and cost escalation, an approaching hardware refresh or datacenter contract expiration, scaling needs that on-prem capacity can't meet economically, and disaster recovery requirements that are expensive to satisfy on-premises. When two or more of those converge, the economics usually favor moving, and it's worth modeling honestly.

We define the run-cost model with you before go-live, so post-migration operating costs are a known quantity rather than a surprise, and ongoing optimization work is aimed at driving those costs down over time. Primarily by making it a non-event: validated backups before every cutover, tested rollback plans, staged wave-based migration, and verification testing at each step. Contractual liability terms and SLAs are defined explicitly in the engagement agreement, so protections are in place, but our process is designed to keep you from ever needing them.
